Drug Addiction and alcoholism are two of the most dangerous and devastating illnesses out there. They are in fact such massive problems that they kill more people than all other chronic disease combined.

And the best time to catch an addiction is early. The longer you leave it, the worse it becomes until you reach the point that you even end up putting your life at risk.

Three of the most obvious warning signs of alcoholism or drug addiction are experiencing withdrawals when you stop drinking or taking drugs which can show up in anxiety and getting the shakes, developing an increased tolerance so you need to use or drink more to get the same effects, and trying unsuccessfully on numerous occasions to cut down or quit

So ideally you want to get help as soon as these symptoms start manifesting. Problem is, alcoholics and drug addicts tend to live in denial and are therefore resistant to want to receive help until things are often really bad.

But admitting to your problem is the first step in getting clean and sober. That is the foundation on which you build your recovery. Without it, you have nothing.

Performing an intervention is one of the most effective ways for helping someone you love break through their denial and ensuring they get proper help ” so thats the route to follow if its not you but someone you care about struggling with addiction.

The biggest weapons in your armoury to combat an addiction to drugs or alcohol are information or knowledge ” and then application of your knowledge by taking action. By doing that your alcoholism or drug addiction can be overcome, no matter how bad.

Addiction can tear relationships apart but you must realize that people can’t really be helped unless they are ready and willing to accept it.

    Thanks for all the info.

Also, the best thing to do, atleast it worked for me, is to distance yourself from a loved one that is addicted. It will hurt to do so but if you are around them durin rock bottom you will go through a bunch of stuff that you don’t need. This doesn’t mean let them die but don’t get too involved.
